Aldershot got off to a winning start in their first Football League campaign for 16 years as they won at Accrington.
Midfielder Scott Donnelly bagged the all-important goal, curling a free-kick into the top corner from 20 yards.
Shots had keeper Nikki Bull to thank for keeping the home side out as he clawed out an Andy Procter header before thwarting striker Paul Mullin.
Shots' striker Marvin Morgan fired wide and birthday boy John Grant hit the post as they dominated proceedings.
